Help: C86 UT Cartridges don't print

Help: C86 UT Cartridges don't print

2005-10-29 by Mani Varadarajan

Hello,

I purchased a set of Ultratone inks for my Epson C86. I'm having a
problem getting the inks flowing properly. Here's the history:

The factory ink cartridges worked just fine. When I first put in the
UT inks, however, I didn't get any ink on the paper whatsoever. I took
the cartridges out, shook them vigorously, and put them back in.
Nothing. I did it again, ran a set of three cleaning cycles, and I got
faint printing. A nozzle check printout showed that the black ink and
cyan position inks are printing intermittently. I put the factory inks
back in and had no problems printing.

I then searched on the net and read about the "water drop trick", that
the inks would start flowing if a drop of water were put inside. So I
removed the cartridges and did this. Thankfully, the black and yellow
slot cartridges have started to flow, albeit with gaps. (I'm using the
nozzle check printout to check this). The cyan and magenta slot
cartridges are still totally blank, no matter what I do. I've tried
cleaning a couple more times. Now another problem has arisen. I can't
clean the nozzles anymore because the printer reports that the black
ink cartridge is low! I haven't printed more than a page with the
cartridge.

Someone please give me a hand -- I'm very frustrated.

Be sure the tape tabs over the air inlets on the carts have been removed.

Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply. I wasn't sure whether to do that or not. I
just removed the tabs, and the black ink appears to be flowing better
but the others aren't. I can't clean the nozzles because of the low
ink indication. Any idea how to proceed? Can I reset the indicator
somehow?

RE: [Digital BW] Help: C86 UT Cartridges don't print

2005-10-29 by Paul Roark

The most economical way to use the system is to re-fill the carts. For this
you'll want a chip re-resetter. See the bottom of my Readme on the C86
(http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/C86-EZ-UT-Readme.htm) and the picture of the
resetter I have listed on my index (http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/index.htm)
just above the C86 section. There is also a Russian program that can reset
the counters (http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml).

The carts that had the tapes on them may need a priming to get the fluid
going. Air was probably sucked into the chamber just above the inlet. See
the photo of the modified bottom fill adapter I use for priming, also just
above the C86 section.

Re: [Digital BW] Help: C86 UT Cartridges don't print

2005-11-01 by Jordan Wosnick

Just an addendum to Paul's instructions to say that I've been
re-filling carts with the MIS-EZ inkset for my C86 with great results.
It's really not hard to do (although I always spill a tiny bit of ink
every time I do it -- thank heavens for aluminum foil) the savings and
convenience are fantastic.
