B&W on the Epson 4000

B&W on the Epson 4000

2005-11-11 by guiseppiverdi

Hello, How can I do the best b&w printing on my Epson 4000 while staying with the standard
black and color cartridges. It's been too big an investment for me to go to the 4800 soon.
Thanks, guiseppi (aka John)

Three words: Quad Tone RIP (I think it's three words, anyway).

http://www.quadtonerip.com/html/QTRoverview.html

It will let you print B&W that is accuratly linearized (nice detail
from shadow to highlight, and a good ability to get a screen to print
match) give you relatively neutral tones, and will eliminate
metamerism (weird color shifts when going from daylight to tungsten
light to fluorescent light).

Either a rip (like Imageprint), or QTR from Roy Harrington, or IJC/OPM. All will deliver very nice b&w. The rip solution is the most expensive, with Roy's QTR being the least expensive - but not lacking in results.

Tom, I've looked into Imageprint rip, but not the others, so thanks
for the multiple answer to a single-choice question. (eh?) John

Hello koloshor,

Thanks for the url below. It's not one I've heard of before, and the
price is right. I've only looked at Imageprint before this.

Try BLACK ONLY (bo) printing. The 4000 produces the best B.O. prints.
It's all in the dithering patern.

You're quite welcome. Let us know how it works out for you. There's a
lot of happy QTR users on this group.
