QTR vs IJC/OPM

QTR vs IJC/OPM

2005-12-26 by isvibilsky

Hi everybody,

I use epson 2200 with the standart set of inks. Until now I printed
all my sepia toned images using epson driver with custom built icc
profiles. Depending on the image I could get a decent result. But some
images with deep shadows were impossible to print. That's why I
started to look for RIPs.
I've been trying the QTR software for some time but still not totally
happy with the printouts. No doubt that QTR solves the issue but the
printouts look for me kinda flat compare to printed through epson driver.
I was hoping to try IJM/OPM and compare the results but there is no
try before buy option available.
Could anybody share his/her experience?

Regarding flat looking printouts. My assumption is I don't use a
special set of inks so I don't take advantage of the RIP completely.

Thanks,
Igor.

Hi igor..... one main difference between the two RIPS is the support you get from the
community of users. QTR seems to be used by many more people than the Bowhaus RIP
is, and so if you have questions you have a better chance of getting them answered. Put
another way, if you're think you may need a lot of handholding (which I did when I started)
QTR is likely a better choice.

The flatness and shadow issues will be the same with IJC; the problem
is in the workflow.
Search the archives for print to monitor matching, and QTR create icc.

John
