Using a Hair Dryer

Using a Hair Dryer

2006-01-01 by Tom Husband

I'm doing some QTR curves for a 2200 and UT7 ink. I don't want to
wait 24 hours for the ink to settle in and I know some of you use a
hair dryer to speed things up. How long do you use the dryer and do
you keep it a foot or so off the paper?

Thanks,

Tom

I don't think it's critical -- say 20 sec. from 8 inches, moving back and
forth on the test strip. You'll see the blackest areas change as they dry.
(Life's definitely too short to wait 24 hours between iterations.)

Great! This'll speed things up.

Thanks Paul!

High heat, low fan - close to the print (a few cm away). Put your other
hand behind the print. You'll feel it heat up, it'll get damp (fiber -
not RC), it'll dry out. All very quickly. Keep the hair dryer moving,
back and forth, back and forth, overlapping each stroke as you make your
way across the print. Takes a minute or so to dry a 30 x 24 cm print.
For a print that size I usually make two passes (top and bottom). But
whatever works for you.
