Spectrocam dot gain readings
2001-08-13 by Tyler Boley
The Spectrocam software will give dot gain readings for any CMYK ink set. The Spectrocam Pro software will give the same as well as "custom" inks, in other words additional inks like CMYKOG or whatever. They both work fine for individual ink measurements, very useful for custom ink setups for quads or CMYK profiling. It seemed like it would be useful for evaluating a quad workflow for an entire inkset. In other words, print the step wedge out using your quad workflow, measure the 100% patch and the paper white patch, the strip, and see where your other tones fall. However, I'm getting some very goofy results. I'm wondering if the slight hue variations throughout the scale are throwing the readings off. Anybody with a Spectrocam out there tried this? Or anyone with more spectro experience than I know why this wouldn't work? Thanks, Tyler
