Need a Video Card Recommendation

Need a Video Card Recommendation

2006-02-16 by Louis Dina

I am running a PC at work on Windows XP Pro and am buying a new Samsung
LCD monitor. The old video card in my machine is analog and so I need
to buy a digital video card that will fit into an AGP slot.

My company is CHEAP (spelled with a capital "C"), so I need to keep the
price of the video card between $100 and $200. Will use for Photoshop,
InDesign, Illustrator, etc, and I don't care about video, gaming, 3D,
etc. I just want a decent card with at least 128MB RAM that allows me
to write to the VLUT and gives me at least 1600X1200 resolution.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Lou Dina

For pure 2D, the Matrox stuff is good, otherwise pretty much any ATI
card with 128MB or more should do you.

Personally I use a Radeon 9650

I would probably see if I could find one the the dual monitor cards
that supports dual LUTs so you can profile both monitors. Even if you
only run with one monitor for now, it give you the room for future.
That would of course depnd on the final price. ATI and Matrox are the
only ones that I've heard mentioned that support this, but there must
be others.

I use an Nvidia. Works with two monitors.
