Jon,

You need the VM Black, or the Generations ENHANCED black. The regular
MIS black is not very black, and the regular MIS inks are brownish. You
need the VM variable tone inks and Paul Roark's curves.

Its the inkset that you have.

NO pigment black is as black as a dye black. I'm thinking of using a dye
black with my hextone VM pigment inkset. The other 5 inks will be the VM
hextone inks, but the black will be Dye. I think it will work. May not
last as long, but I'm sure it will last longer than me.

Here's a related question:

I'd like to substitute the MIS VM black for the Piezo black. Will the
densities be similiar?

Yes. I'm suspicious that they are the same ink.

Paul-

Are you suggesting that the VM inks will work with the Piezo
software? If so, will your curves work in that workflow?

Tom,

Not exactly. What I was saying is that the MIS VM BLACK ink can be used
instead of the Piezo black ink. The cyan inks are also essentially the
same, but the MIS VM ink has less green in it. The magentas are different,
and, of course, the yellow position in the quads is the toner position.

The MIS VM inks don't work with the Piezo driver. The toner gives a weird
tone distribution. The MIS VM warm curve might be close with the Piezo
inkset, but I've never tried it.

If you want more reasonably-priced inks for the Piezo driver, the MIS FS
series is your ticket. (Yes, I said series. There will be a neutral and
maybe more, and you'll be able to mix them to get any amount of warmth you
like.)

Hi Paul:

I'm holding off on another 1160 setup until your VMneut/sepia formula is
ready. I'm curious how close you are and, if only the yellow position
changes color, from blue to warm. You did say that the VM works like your
old VPiezo, with the Yellow getting the toner, right?

Thanks,
