severe bronzing when using QTR & photo profile in Qimage with Kirkland paper

severe bronzing when using QTR & photo profile in Qimage with Kirkland paper

2006-04-06 by Allan Chen

Hi all,
I always seem to be several months behind the curve (heh) on b&w
printing. I think I actually know how one is supposed to use QTR now.
Kinda.

So I found out that I am "supposed" to be using the RGB Photo profile if
I"m printing to file in Qimage, right? Previously, I had not been. I'd
been happy with the results, but figured I should try and see it went
using things "correctly."

Well, now I'm getting a LOT of bronzing on the Kirkland glossy paper.
Is it correct to assume that this is just because I don't have a profile
for the paper and I need to adjust the ink limit?

just making sure.

What printer and inkset are you using?

Ha! I _always_ forget something. Sheesh.

[Digital BW] Re: severe bronzing when using QTR & photo profile in Qimage with Kirkland paper

I'm assuming you are using the PK ink. I'm printing on Kirkland using
QTR with a 2200 loaded with PKN and MIS Pro light black. I haven't seen
any bronzing -- even when I've increased black boost in the profile,
as well as moving the slider to deepen blacks/shadows. I've also
printed on Kirkland using QTR via Qimage's "Print to file". I used the
QTR gray lab profile and got good results -- no bronzing or artifacts.
I would speculate that MIS PK might be a bit more given to bronzing
than the PKN but not enough to create the problems you described. If
you haven't already, I suggest you try printing directly through QTR to
make certain that you haven't inadvertantly loaded an Eboni cart into
the black position. Also -- just to see what happens -- you could
process the file through Qimage as a grayscale and convert the
resulting Print to File file from rgb to QTR's photo black profile.

Actually, this is with Eboni. I thought I couldn't use the gray lab
profile in Qimage because it needed an RGB profile? Maybe that's my
problem...

I'll try a couple of your suggestions.
