Hi all, I am thinking about trying Bo on this paper with my 2200. Will I see a gloss differential because I am using the K2 PK? Anyone tried BO with this paper yet? thanks, Sarah

Sarah, I have tried it on a 4000 (same K2 PK as your 2200). There was some minor bronzing, easily eliminated with light spray of print Shield. The the BO prints are warm, but very good. I'd have to say though that 2200/K2 inks on Silver Rag aren't that great... in comparison to using the K3 inks I started off with my old 2200 - and while the K2 inks on Silver Rag were indeed quite an improvement over other glossy/semi-gloss papers, there was still some bronzing and noticeable differential, even after spraying. The improvement was maybe 50-60% over existing papers. BUT when I started using K3 inks in a 2400 the difference/improvement was dramatic - absolutely no bronzing, and using ABW and/or QTR, almost no discernable metamerism (no more than on a real silver print) and as close to a true neutral print as I have ever got on an inkjet. (and you don' need to run just BO to get a nice print though - works well with QTR)

I guess I'm going to have to try to get some K3 inks in my 2200, which is what I sort of figured. I've never transferred inks before, though, so that makes me a little nervous and I wqas hoping to avoid it just for that reason. Thanks for your comments...they do help. You do know that your 2200 does not enough slots for the full K3 ink set, right?

I use the MIS K4 (Epson K3 equivalent inkset) inks without the LLK ink in both my old 2200 and the 4000. Works great with a RIP (both QTR and ColorBurst X-Photo with custom cmyk profiles for the latter), but I haven't tried with the Epson driver. I think the Epson driver would also work with a custom RGB profile. Carl

Tom, yes, I do kno that...thanks, though. and Carl....how difficult/messy is it to transfer the ink from the K4 carts to the ones that work in the 2200? This is the area I am completely clueless about. Is there clear instructions somewhere on ho to do this? Thanks! If that's what you're planning, you might think about buying the empty 2200 carts, and the MIS K4 inks to fill them with. Far cheaper to operate than buying Epson carts w/ink. They also sell what they call "MIS PRO" inks which, they claim, has similar characteristics to the new Epson inks. I've used them in the R220, and am planning on switching over my 9600 to the PRO inks.

Sarah, You will most likely get some ink on your fingers unless you wear latex gloves. As Tom said, best to buy some bulk ink from MIS along with some of their refillable carts and syringes. You'll also need a bottom fill adapter for the syringe to remove air from the cartridge valve before using for the first time. MIS has detailed instructions for refilling. Carl

Sarah, I've been using a B&W set of K3 inks in one of my 2200s (with IJC/OPM) since September and I'm very pleased with the results - I'll send a sample if you wish. I've run out of Silver Rag, but have Innova F-type and Oriental baryta FB as well as a few other glossy papers. I tried a colour K3 set (without the LLK) in my colour 2200 but couldn't make a profile that I was happy with, so switched back to the original inks temporarily. Now I have a better profiling system, and will resume the K3 colour experiment. Helen, thanks. I made note of your ink choices before...is this correct? MK from 4000/4800 (same ink) K3 PK from 4800 K3 LK from 4800 K3 LLK from 4800 K3 LC from 4800 Krystal Topkote Blue from R800 I am confused about how the Topkote works. Is it in the 2200 you are printing from or do you have it in another printer? Before you sitched to a CIS, what was your method for getting your inks into tthe 2200 cartidges? Sorry for the elementary questions but I am slightly trepidatious about filling my own ink carts. I guess it's probably easier than I think. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Helen Bach" <helenbach@...> wrote:
