75 Year Quad-Black Dyes

75 Year Quad-Black Dyes

Wouldn't be nice to have a Durabrite 75 Year waterproof qiad-black
set of dyes?

Wouldn't it be nice if they were waterproof?

Wouldn't be nice if they came in three flavors, neutral, warm and
cool?

Wouldn't be nice if the printed on coated and uncoated papers?

Wouldn't it be nice is eventually they were 200 year dyes?

What a dream.

There is much talk about these new DuraBrites today on the
Epson9000 list. It appears that they are pigments, and appear to
be waterproof, yet have a large color gamut. (They are not quads,
as is your wish, but they certainly, hopefully, could be profiled
and brought under control).

I have no direct knowledge of this; it seems the inks are only in
the C80 right now, which I have not seen. But there is a
buzz about town about them...

Rumored to be used in the new Epson 8000... (?)

I felt fairly certain, but only 'certain' in that hazy-memory kind-of way,
that the black ink and the coloured inks were different formulations - that
no one mentioned on the 9000 group.

My recollection was that the logic was - for text type documents the type of
black required is different from the requirements for colour images, so the
driver could avoid use of K in images and only use it for text.

If that is true, this may explain why some people have commented on weak
blacks on certain papers.

Steve,

I'm very curious about that printer. Going back to 4 inks may be the way to
go for many uses, including the quad printers. Very compact dots of more
concentrated ink may achieve better "aggregation" (compaction of the
crystals so that they protect each other from oxidation) than the light inks
and thus fade less. (Is a 3000 replacement with that technology next?)

Could you make 2 standard 21-step test strips on EAM for me? I'd love to
see how good the black is and how the combination will do in my fader. I
think Epson is now using non-polymer-coated black. I wonder if it is
"enhanced" like the Generations -- i.e., has dye added.

I almost ordered one just out of curiosity. But then, after seeing
the inkcarts listed on Outpost, I was reminded of the hassle
factor and cost of inks for those tiny printers. So I'm gonna pass.

Wouldn't it be great if you could cram big old 9000 carts in one of
those little printers, and just be done with it for good?

Mark, just decant the large cartridges into 4 ounce bottles. Works just
fine. Then get a CIS system.
