service for getting B&W prints from digital files

2006-05-09 by daveredmann

Please excuse a basic question from a new member. I tried a basic
search of the messages but it timed out on me.

I don't have, and don't expect to soon get, an inkjet printer. For
color pictures, I upload my files to Shutterfly and Mpix. Mpix does
offer B&W prints on some sort of Ilford paper (exactly which Ilford
paper is a question I haven't been able to get answered
satisfactorily), and I've tried that with mixed results (althoug the
problems may mostly be my color-to-B&W conversion). So, for those of
you who have services make B&W photographic prints instead of making
your own inkjet prints:

1. What are your favorite services for real photographic (i.e., non-
inkjet) B&W prints?

2. What other services have you tried?

3. Have you found a service that will make a real photographic print
on fiber-based paper? I am aware of only one or two, and they're not
cheap.

Thanks!

Dave

When I sent files to Mpix for their B&W printing - I did not convert
the color files, I sent them as full color files and the paper does
the conversion....I assume it is a direct positive form of paper. You
might give it another try.
