UT-3D vs UT7 vs EZ(warm)

UT-3D vs UT7 vs EZ(warm)

2006-05-15 by Richard Cooke

Hi Folks,

I'll throw this out to everybody but Paul might be the only one who
can answer this.

I Currently have a 2200 using the UT7, a C86 using the EZ(warm) and
also a R200 but that still has the factory color inks in it. I love
the ease and tone of the EZ warm inks - something I haven't managed to
get from my 2200 and QTR/IJC.

My questions are will the new UT-3D in a 2200 equal the output from a
R200 with the same inks? Is the process of generating the curves/ICC
profiles the same for both printers? Is the R200 ouput equal to the R220?

Thanks in advance,

Richard Cooke

Richard,

The EZ R2 warm inks are, in fact, in the UT-3D. The dark and light carbon
inks are standards that I've used for a number of inksets. They are in your
2200 with UT7 also. The carbon curve for it should look just like the R200
with the warm inks. I have not made carbon curves yet, however. So, if
you're no prints larger than 8x10, you might as well stick to the R2 warm
inkset.

The basic process of making ICCs is the similar. However, when you embed a
curve that curve needs to be on a special file that is dragged and dropped
into the program along with the linearization information.

As to the 200 v. 220, I prefer the 220. It has a bit better ramp with the
Color Controls, and it has the Ultra Premium Glossy Paper type, which works
very well with some papers.

Thanks Paul,

What inks are the same in the UT-7 and UT-3D insets? MIS lists the
full set of UT-3D for $126 so if I can re-use some of the UT7 set I
can keep my wife happy.

K (Eboni), L and LC are the same on the UT7 and 3D.

The M & LM toners were moved slightly to the cyan side. The sepia was
dropped and replaced with a Lab a* toner that works with the M & LM to pull
them back to whatever level of a* you want (within a rather narrow range).
Basically, I was frustrated with the UT7 inability to put the a* (green-red
[or magenta]) tone where I wanted it.

Thanks Paul,

I'm probably a bit dense but is 'L' = to the LK (light Black) ink?

(Sorry, my dyslexia is showing up again.)

> I'm probably a bit dense but is 'L' = to the LK (light Black) ink?

Let me go over this and pay more attention.

The question was: "What inks are the same in the UT-7 and UT-3D insets?"

My incorrect initial answer was: "K (Eboni), L and LC are the same on the
UT7 and 3D."

There is no "L."

The UT7 C, LC, and Eboni are the same as the UT-3D C, LC, and Eboni.

The remainder of the response appears to be correct.

(Relative to the UT7 M toners)
