Does anyone know of an ink jet paper for printing digital photos that is similar in color/brightness and texture to the graded Illford Gallerie paper used for printing black and white negatives? Ron

Illford Gallerie Pearl Smooth http://www.ilford.com/html/us_english/prod_html/galerie/default.htm But will work only with certain inksets. Hi Ron; The original Galerie was a beautiful warmish FB paper, I used it a few times and loved it when I did; Unfortunately, the inkjet papers by the same name have nothing in common with it, except the name. The inkjet papers are RC, and resemble Ilford's Multigrade RC papers. Some of the new generation of cotton glossy and semi-gloss papers get a lot closer, but we're still not quite there yet, most of us are still looking for the right combination of longevity, Dmax, brightness, base color and surface texture that made many of the halide papers so nice. Of course, that wasn't a single look, it was a range, so best advice is try as many as you can and see what rings your bell. I think the inkjet papers that have a finish that is closest to the old silver prints are Crane Museo Silver Rag and Innova Fiber Gloss (sold by PermaJet in Europe as Fibre Based Gloss). To get the tone the same you'd probably have to make a custom profile/curve with one of the variable-tone inksets from MIS. I am interested in making profiles for the traditional papers for the MIS UT-3D inkset. So, if people will send me Lab readings of the great old silver papers, or a sample or test strip of such with a good selection of densities, I'll take a shot at a profile that will match that old paper with one of these new inkjet papers. I currently have the UT-3D running on the 220, 2200 and 2400. Contact me of list if you're interested in trading a sample print/test strip for a profile for one of these printers and the UT-3D inkset. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Paul, Attached are some data for one of my old Oriental Seagull (selenium toned) silver prints. I just collected spot measurements from different areas of the print, but I don't have a step wedge print. Might be OK as a sample for hue. Measurements were made with an x- rite pulse spectrophotometer (UV filtered) and are tabulated in the attached ascii file as Lab and density (CMYV) readings. I don't have the 3D inks yet for my 2400 but I do want to try them with your workflow.
