CFS in 2400

CFS in 2400

2006-06-05 by coastiephoto

Hi everybody, I am new to this group which I discovered through
Claytons BxW site.

I just purchased a 2400 , its my first real printer and I was
astonished to see how much ink I was using and the cost of replacement
cartridges, I decided the CFS system was the way to go, ( it arrives
tomorrow ).

After 0rdering a color set with Eboni matte black I decided to check
out the downloadable installation guide from M.I.S., ( should have
done this first ), then I see I have to run the printer every other
day to stop the lines from clogging, I think this may be a little
overkill for my needs, they did mention a autorun program that you can
schedule to run a test print when not in use, though I am having
trouble getting it to work as it doesn't accept my username/password.

Anyway here are my questions......

Is the CFS a good system ?

Should I get refillable Ink cartridges instead ?

Is the universal black any good ? , I would like to print on a lustre
surface now and again.

And finally, how is M.I.S. regarding returns ?

Thank you so much, this forum is great and I am learning a lot
although I am at the bottom of the learning curve and it can get quite
tecnical.

Cheers

Mick,

Welcome to the group.

Well, use it regularly. I'm not sure if every other day is needed. That
said, I won't use them.

> Is the CFS a good system ?

They are very convenient for regular, heavy users. One of the big reasons I
don't use them is that I switch inks a lot. If I had one printer and was
not going to switch inks, I might well use a CFS.

> Should I get refillable Ink cartridges instead ?

That is what I use. They are very easy to live with, but no question that
re-filling is a bit of a nuisance. Expect to get some ink on your hands and
sink.

It is the only convenient way to switch inks. For example, even if you're
not interested in experimenting with different inksets, how are you going to
print on both matte and glossy paper without switching black inks? I'd hat
to not be able to print on both types of paper.

> Is the universal black any good ?

It has dye in it. So, I do not consider it adequate for a print I want to
last. I do use it in my wife's little C82 printer, but those prints are not
what I'd consider archival.

> And finally, how is M.I.S. regarding returns ?

(I'll let others deal with this, as my experience would not be
representative.)
