Can't get my R2400 working - don¹t know problem

Can't get my R2400 working - don¹t know problem

2006-06-25 by G Guhan Gunaratnam

Hello,

I¹ve got a problem with my R2400. I¹m using MIS inks and just needed to do
a refill (have done a few before, no problems). The first issue that
occurred during the refill was that the yellow cartridge (I¹m using MIS
spongeless) didn¹t reset, each time I tried I got red (only on the yellow,
the rest went to green). I filled it up anyways (it was actually the only
one that wasn¹t empty, so I thought maybe I wasn¹t getting a green because
of this). After I closed the cover and all that, I pressed the ink button.
It just stayed red. I turned off the printer, and then back on, and it
returned to the red ink button. When I open the ink cover, there is a red
light above the LLK and Y ink cartridges. The LLK cartridge reset fine, I
don¹t know why it is lit (unless the problem is unrelated to the cartridge
reset).

Any help is really appreciated

Regards,
Guhan

I wonder if there is a high failure rate in the MIS Y chips. Mine (2400
also) would not reset either. I swapped the OEM chip onto it, and it
works fine now... i suppose next time i order from MIS, i will get a
replacement chip.

Hello;

I have been exploring digital B&W printing and have been on this list for about 5 years.
Originally I tried several Cone inksets and several MIS inksets in both an Epson 1160 and
Epson 1280. 80% of my time was spent with trying to figure out and resolve problems with
clogged nozzles, bad carts, mislabeled carts, bad ink, banding , posterization, calls to tech
support and reading every post on this list like it was the gospel for answers! For very
short periods I was able to just make prints and focus on my photography but my problem
free printing never lasted. I cant calculate the amount of ink, paper and time I
wasted.

In the beginning of '06 I purchased an Epson r2400 and it has been like a gift from
heaven! Since I first turned it on I have had 98% problem free printing in both Color and
B&W with quality that is amazingly good. NOBODY knows how to manufacture and fill ink
carts like Epson. I would not go back to putting 3rd part inks in my Epson printer EVER!

This has been my experience.. your mileage may vary.

Thanks Matt,

Would I need a Y OEM cart? (Just my luck, I have empty carts in every
color except Y!) I switched the LLK chip and now it is ok (using an
OEM LLK chip). Can a M chip be used on the Y spongeless cart?

Steve, you use a lupe to see that it is aligned? How are you seeing
the contacts within the printer? The contacts on the cart are
certainly large enough to not require magnification to see them (this
isn't nanotech). I probably don't understand what you are using the
lupe for. Because the Y chip isn't even resetting, I don't think it
is an alignment issue.

I've tried realigning the Y cart, it still errors.

Jeff, I think it is great you can afford the OEM inks and I'd agree
they are great. However, I'm extremely happy with the quality of
both Cone and MIS inks, and minor inconveniences such as these, though
annoying, would never make me consider switching back to OEM. I no
longer worry about ink costs, I print as much as I want, as big as I
want. The only sacrifice in my mind is a small amount of convenience
IMHO. But as you said, mileage varies.

Thanks again everyone

Guhan

I think the M chip would not work. The 2400 expects a particular
chip in each ink position.

agreed.

Since you don't have the Y OEM, i would simply order 1 (or 2) Y
chips from MIS. Good luck.
