Epson R220 Photo Rag Problem

Epson R220 Photo Rag Problem

2006-07-13 by flyflightdeck

Hi all,

I bought this R220 a couple weeks ago and I used Hanamule Photorag 308
with it succesfully for about 6 or 7 sheets. Now when I try and feed
the paper it just ejects it all the way through without printing.I
searched here and found one other reference to the same problem, but
with no real solution.I really like this paper and have used it a long
time with my 1160.Is there some kind of hack or fix I can try to get
this paper to work again in my 220?Thanks..............Chris

Hi Chris;

There are sveral things that might help:

A) under the Maintenance tab in the driver, there's a button
labeled 'Printer and option information' check the box for 'thick paper
and envelopes & see if that helps
B) the most common solution is to put a little pressure on the paper as
the machine tries to pull it in. Sometimes it helps to have a piece of
thin cardboard or several sheets of paper in the tray behind the piece
you're using.
c) Check the soft rubber cam-like gear in the paper take-up slot to
make sure it is clean, it collects fuzz and dust from this kind of
paper very quickly. Clean it with a q-tip and alcohol if it looks even
a little dirty.

d) If all else fails- apply a strip 3/4 inch masking tape across the
bottom such that a third of it is stuck to the BACK surface of the
paper, and the remainder is folded over onto itself as evenly as
possible. Sticking it to the back surface only means that it is easy to
peel off, and it doesn't damage the printing side. This gives the
printer something easier to grab onto. Obviously its a pain to do
repeatedly, and it doesn't always work

Best,

Steven Karafyllakis

Manually load the paper before attempting to print.
Personally I think itÂ’s asking too much from that type of printer (curved
feed path) to feed stiff papers.

When feeding the paper through, keep a firm & consistent pressure (in the
direction of the feed) as it trys to grab it. This will insure the feed
mechanism gets a good grip and knows it has the paper. Otherwise it
hesitates and just pushes it through.

I do this all the time with my 2400.

Used to do it with my 1280,

and my 1270,

and my 870...

I'm glad the you got it to work. HPR is a paper that I've had
difficulty with and will never use again. It seems to mess up the
loading mechanism on my printers. (220, 2200 and 2400.) It works fine
for a short while and then fails.
I've found more than adequeate substitutes that do not have this
issue FOR ME.
Clearly, my bad experieinces with HPR are in the minority.
