Desktop Epsons for Black and White Work

Desktop Epsons for Black and White Work

2006-08-10 by john dean

Paul,

You use desktop machines for all your work? I've always wondered what
people do with them when the wast collection units are full? I've had
a 1270 and a 1200 going for 5 or 6 years and they still keep going.
Is there a way to reprogram the wast tank once it IS full? I realize
the 4000 series is reprogrammable and the waste tank can be replaced.

John,

>You use desktop machines for all your work?

No, in fact my 7500 is ready to be picked up today from the service person.
However, the cost of infrequent use of such a machine is rather high. So,
down the road somewhere, I'll probably buy a 4800, which could do the vast
majority of what I do. Then I'll just farm out the larger prints.

Of the desktop units I have or have had, the 220 and 2400 are the best. So,
I'd probably end up with a 220 and 4800 (or their replacements), and use the
4800 enough to keep it running right.

I re-set the counter and just keep going. They are probably good for at
least twice what Epson claims.

Yep, I burn them out before that due to all the experimenting, but with luck
they seem to go a long time.

On some there is a combination of buttons pushed at the same time that does
it. With others the Russian utility will do it. I don't have the formulas
handy, but Google or people on this list usually can find them.

Hi Paul.Informational.
I just got the new head for mine installed and all adjustments made.
It, indeed, was the source of my problems with ink drips and blobs.
I'm currently linearising and profiling it.

Regards.

Thanks for desktop reprogramming info. I'll search around for it.

I am not sure what you mean by "cost of infrequent use of such a
machine is high". With my 7000 NK6 Piezo Tone inks I just turn it on
and print, whether I've used it for many weeks or the day before. They
simply don't clog (or waste) in my expereience. Similarly I didn't
have a problem with the Lyson quads in that regard either though the
metamerisam stunk.

Do the MIS monochrome pigments clog that much that you have to abandon
using a large machine because of infrequent use?

Re: [Digital BW] Epson reset software

It's Windows only though, so you'll need a PC or a new Intel Mac with
Windows to use it. Many of the printers need to be resetbefore the
counter completely fills, or they freeze and won't let you access them
with this software.
