Preventing Cleaning Cycle in Epsons

Preventing Cleaning Cycle in Epsons

2006-08-09 by robert49brake

Was there a post a few months ago about preventing the cleaning cycle from starting either
when changing a single cart e.g. Photo black to Eboni, or when turning the printer on? Going
through the archives I just can't seem to plug in the right search terms. Thanks.

This could be done with the 2200. After swapping carts, instead of
pressing the ink button, turning the printer off and then back on
would avoid the cleaning cycle. However it doesn't work with the
2400. I don't know about other models.

Clayton

Hi, Clayton,

For some reason, after printing satisfactorily, my Epson 2100
(European version of the 2200) fails to print. I wait until the file
has spooled and then switch off the 2100. On switching on again, it
goes through a lengthy song and dance routine, but without the song.
During this, I presumed it was cleaning the heads (for the greater
maximization of Epson's profits) even though the red lights do not
flash. Wasn't it?

This isn't the same as actually changing to a different cart, but may still
be worth mentioning. On my 2400, I have had a crabby magenta cart and
wanted to take it out for examination and then reseat it without going
through a recharging cycle. I started a nozzle check and then stopped power
via the power cord (not the button!) just as the head was on a stroke to
move back to the home position. The head moved back to the point where I
could access the carts. I was able to take out the cart, reinsert it and
then repower the printer without enduring a recharging or cleaning cycle.
This may not work if you were to actually change to another cart since the
printer would probably notice the different cart chips.
