Adhesives and framing

2006-09-24 by martznbarb

I am about to have my first show of my Digital Prints. I print on PhotoRag 308 and I am
riping the edges of the print and using a deeper frame with a beautiful linen matt which is
actually behind the print. Then there is a 3/16 piece of foam core which is cut to the
image size and the print is attached to the foam core which is attached to the matt so it
looks like it is floating in the frame. The prints are large 12" x 36 ". I do not want to dry
mount the photo to the foam core. I was told to use a hinge technique using linen tape. I
have tried this putting the tape at the top and the archival tape was not sticky enough.
Also the bottom edge was attracted to the glass.

What are other peoples suggestions for mounting materials. Brands, where to get etc. I
am getting anxious as the show is to be hung in 3 weeks and I am not satisfy with the
adhesives available. I asked at the gallery for suggestions and all that they said is do not
dry mount.

Help Please

Hello,

You could try archival artist tape by 3M it is white
and comes in widths
1/4"-2" . You could also use ATG tape by 3M, it's
archival and double sided. I use it for the dust cover
on the back of a frame and to secure double and trip
mats together. It comes in rolls to use in the ATG
tape gun a good $30 investment and in tape
applicatiors for about $6. It will hold your mats
together and they can be taken a part if neccessary.
But it will puu some of the paper off the mats.

Good luck,
