HP 9800 and Banding

2006-10-22 by tim4peace2001

Hello. I am getting banding when I print with my HP 9800. I am
printing B&W with the photo grey cartridge. The results are great,
except for the banding. When I do print color, it also shows banding. It
does not show banding in every print, but I would say it does on a
frequent basis. I have tried new cartridges and it still bands. Any
suggestions? Also, can anyone advise using this printer to print BO?
Thank you.

Francis

Hi Francis,

I also have vertical banding with my HP 9800. Don't know what causes
it. I called the HP rep, and she said it was the paper batch. which I
don't believe, because the banding showed also with Ilford paper.

Black only is easy. Just add 4-5% of gaussian noise to the image to make
sure the transitions are smooth and print with the option to use
black/gray cart with the black cart installed. Some carts I've used
showed some horizontal banding, and it's not like clogged nozzels, but a
1 cm wide lighter area across the print few cm's from the rear edge of a
super-B print. The last black cart I have shows this. The A4 prints are
great, but can't print bigger prints, because of this banding. But I've
printed some great super-B prints with other carts, so it is a hit and
miss to get a good cart to print BO.

Hope this helps,

best
-matti

Matti,

Do mean Gaussian Blur ? Thank you.

No, I have Picture window Pro, and there you can add gaussian noise, or
PS Filter->Noise->Add noise -> distribution gaussian at 4-5%
