MIS on Epson 1280, ink left in printer unused for 1 year+

2006-10-23 by Jeffery Larrick

I have left my MIS ink in my Epson 1280 for 1 year without making a print. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to start working with the printer again? I have run the print head cleaning utility but I still get light streaks when I print. I hope it is just that I need to purchase new ink cartridges, but I am not sure if it affected the print head or not.

Thanks in advance.

>MIS Eboni ink is for matte papers only...Yes, be sure you're using Photo Black ("PK") with Kirkland glossy paper. Iprefer the PKN, which is a neutralized PK that gives a higher dmax. MISonly seems to sell the one I mixed specifically for the C8X in bulk fromhttp://www.inksupply.com/bw/roarkslab. Actually, my favorite PK is Epson UCPK. This is best bought in a large format 7600 cart and must be drained andre-loaded into an MIS empty cart.Paulwww.PaulRoark.com

You'll be lucky if you can save that one.

I am using a 2200 that was stored that way for probably about the same
amount of time. Cleaning cycles did nothing. What finally worked were
carts with Windex in them. After sitting several hours, the nozzles were
clean. I was amazed. I'm told the ammonia in the Windex is too strong to
leave in the heads for very long, but if nothing else works, there isn't
much harm in leaving it as long as it takes. (Use cheap glossy paper to see
the nozzle check lines if all the ink is out of the head.)

Good luck.
