Btw I use a spyder on a mac and have none of the problems you seem to be having although the Spyder 1 is pretty old, technology wise.

The Spyder was a reasonable system for its day. But its day was years ago. 
Spyder2 is competitive with any calibrator out there now; now being a lot later 
than when Spyder1 was being distributed. Can't help you much more than CV 
support on diagnosing in issue with current monitors, and current OSes, with an 
outdated product.
