Hi, I'm doing some proofs before a large mural on my 2100 ... they have started to show banding in spite of a clear nozzle check. What should I do next???? thanks, Richard -- http://smallfield.vze.com http://photos.smallfield.vze.com (Photos web site) http://warkworth.vze.com/ (Warkworth photo essay) "We first make our habits, and then our habits make us." --John Dryden

Try various head alignment settings. The horizontal alignment is notoriously difficult to get right. My horizontal alignment sheet shows so much banding it's impossible to tell which of the boxes are best aligned. I remember Clayton had good results with the lower settings (1-2) in spite of obvious gaps on the alignment sheet. I'm not sure if you have to go through the whole alignment process after the horizontal alignment. The color alignment is slow and tedious to go through. Also try both the thick and normal paper settings. Sometimes on of them will have banding while the other is fine. -- Daniel Staver http://daniel.staver.no

Hi Richard I just had a banding problem on an R220 when printing on heavy stock (HPR 308). Nozzle checks were fine and printing on EAM didn't show banding. It turned out that I needed to realign the heads (using the maintenance function supplied with the printer drivers) for a thicker paper. I didn't manage to completely remove the banding from the HPR prints but it's much less pronounced and quite difficult to see. (I realise this is a completely different printer, but might help you solve your problems.) Good luck Chris --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Richard Smallfield <r.smallfield@...> wrote: > > Hi, > I'm doing some proofs before a large mural on my 2100 ... they have started to show banding in spite of a clear nozzle check.

Richard, You may also want to adjust your print quality and dry time. If the banding is not file related, then adjustments to the printer may get rid of them. Is this a normal size print for you? Sometimes techniques used at one print size don't work so well at other print sizes. Good luck. Richard, >I'm doing some proofs before a large mural on my 2100 ... they have >started to show banding in spite of a clear nozzle check. > >What should I do next???? One more thought, it might be a paper feed problem. You might try cleaning the rollers. Maybe built up coating residue is affecting it. Just grasping at straws... Richard; Look at your nozzle test carefully with a 3x-5x lupe. They should not simply all be there, but each one should be straight and clean with any little hooks on the ends, anf the gaps between them should be even and consistent between colors, If you have hooks or other minor imperfections, you likely have an ink build-up under the head. I'm sure you've already tried wiping with a strip of cleaning-fluid soaked fabric, but you may need to get more aggressive. I recently solved a similar problem by making a fabrick sleeve that fit over a thin blade bent so I could slide it under the head and apply a little pressure whlie wiping it. Worked well, the printer went from almost unusable to almost perfect.
