You are assigning Dot Gain 20%, not converting to it, so the images are
(quite appropriately) incorrect. Instead, go to the Edit > Convert to Profile
command, change your files to Dot Gain 20%, and they will be visually similar, with
differing numbers, instead of numerically unchanged, with differing visual
results.

Thats confusing, so lets see if I can come up with an analogy for this. If
you had a shirt in size Large Tall, and wanted it to fit someone else, you could
return it to the store for a Small (convert to profile) or you could tear out
the tag, and replace it with one that says Small (assign profile). In real
life no one would expect the latter to work, but our understanding of how
profiles function is not as concrete, so your error is not as obvious to you as in
my example...

Thanks for the guidance and the very good analogy. I gather from your
suggestion that it is OK to go back into my PS settings and reset to
GG2.2 (?) It seems that I can take care of the DD 20 issues through PS
editing. Thanks again.

Yes, that would be fine... as long as your files are tagged (and not
incorrectly retagged!).
