MIS ink problems...clogs or bubbles?

MIS ink problems...clogs or bubbles?

2006-12-19 by Jerry Blanton

Hi,

I've just started converting my r2400 from Epson OEM inks to MIS K4
refillable cartridges (spongeless). My first set of carts I bought
prefilled and have just run out of OEM ink and have begun to switch
over. I am suddenly having clogs/dropped jets and ink spots on prints
since I have switched (I've only partially switched at this point).
anyone else had these problems? I've not had a single problem with
OEM ink carts....hate to switch back because of the costs but I've
already wasted a ton of ink just trying to fix the clog..

Jerry--

I have also switched to the K4 inks and spongeless carts. My
experience is that i often need to run several cleaning cycles after
filling. The LM seems to be the worst culprit (FWIW, it was also LM
that would never clear in a prior 1280). However, once it has
"taken," I've not had any clogs to speak of. I suspect that the 30
minutes or so that it takes to fill and reset the carts may allow some
ink to dry on the heads (I usually do all at the carts at once), so I
may experiment by putting an OEM cart in place while i fill the MIS
carts.

Hope this helps.

Be sure the air intake tab has been removed from the cart. If the vacuum
was not good enough in the original fill, there could also be air at the
outlet that needs to be removed with a bottom fill adapter on a syringe.

Matt, your experience is very interesting as I find that LM has been
the offender for me as well (though, oddly, in the auto clean/test
cycle LM printed perfectly and LC was the problem...then it flipped
back to LM being spotty as the test progressed...glad I'm buying this
in bulk :-))

I do them one at a time so not sure about the drying out hypothesis.
I'll try Paul's suggestion of repriming the carts (tonight I'm just
going to refill and reset all of them).

A question: if the little rubber stopper for the fill hole does not
form a perfect seal, what would the effect be on printing? too much
ink flowing?

thanks

Jerry

My experience has been that the more you play with them, the worse you make
it. The ink foams easily, which you want to avoid at all costs.
My best results have come from turning off the printer; filling/priming ala
Roark, and parking them for 30 minutes or more before turning the printer
back on. (R200, 2200)

Best regards,

Have you noticed what I use in the 4K & 5K+ inksets?

I have not seen one that did not seal, but I think the ink might run through
your system.

I'm sorry to say that I had nothing but trouble with K4 inks and spongeless
cart on my R2400. The Y cart seemed to be worst for me. But I'd get clogs
out of nowhere on others as well..

I am back to the OEM carts. The hassle and all the games I had to play and
some of the waiting and other procedures I read described as possible
remedies simply negate any cost savings there might be. When I want to make
a print I want to make a print -- I don't want to have to monkey with the
printing process.

To their credit MIS was great about refunding my purchase $$$. They deserve
kudos for that.

I use MIS ink in spongeless refill carts on the 1800. My experience is that
it always takes some time to get a perfect nozzle check after a refill. I
normally do one cleaning cycle and then let it rest for a few hours. Y seems
to be the worst, but I have also noticed that it seems to foam more than the
other colours. I normally do not prime when refilling, only when starting a
new cart. I did in the beginning, but did not see any improvement re.
clogging. Yes, it is annoying, but for me still outweighs the huge costs
involved in using OEM ink. I am considering trying the new CIS from
www.Inkjetfly.com which looks promising, so that I don't have to take the
carts out for refilling - anyone have experience with this? Once the
clogging has been fixed after a refill, I seldom have problems till the next
refill.

Peter
