Andy,
Are you using papers other than Epson and are they also working good? Are
you able to compare the output of the 3800 with other larger Epson printers.
I am planning on making 16x20s and am really excited that this new printer
can do this size for less cost but I don't want to buy it and then think I
should have bought the 4800 just trying to save a few dollars.
Thanks,
Gary W.

If you have the space, go for the 4800.

Richard,
The 3800 sounds like a great printer a great price. Why do you think the
4800 would be better?
Thanks,
Gary W.

It is a great new printer, I looked it over very closely at the Photo Show,
and CDTobie has a high opinion of it. But it is still a desktop with a lot of
plastic parts, without roll paper capability. You are back in the pizza wheel
camp with the use of slow drying inksets on some papers. This problem is only
going to pop up with the glossy papers, so if you are matte priority, go ahead
with the 38. For the new FB glossy papers, which have me turned on, I'll print
with the 48...BTW, there is not that much difference in the cost of a new or
gently used 4800.
The only advantage the 3800 has, is changing from PK to MK. I have heard
reports that the dither is smoother for B/W printing, and that might be of
sufficient benefit to go with the 3800. I have the 4800 and might consider the
improved dither worth the addition of the 3800 IF I CAN SEE IT, as I do mostly B/W
prints.
