C88+ Question....Quick

C88+ Question....Quick

2007-02-12 by ronspencer23

Well my 2nd and last C86 died a few weeks back...I cannot get another
one. So I got a C88+ Now my question is...can I use the Eboni MIS
inks in it or MUST I use the Photo Black? I had superb results with
the C86 and Eboni and Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper, so I NEVER
bought the photo black...so is the Photo Black a requirement for the
C88+?

thanks

My C88 (which was supposed to be a C88+ but has no such designation) acts
almost identical to my old C86. Eboni seems to run fine in it, although I
think the 220 has a better dmax on matte paper, but this is the same as
before.

Ok I will give it a shot...I tried your curves for Museo Silver
Rag...they are nice. Any chance you will release other curves?

I find the C88+ not quite as nice as the C86 for B&W...needs some work
for "easiness"...any idea if C88+ CAN be as nice?

I encourage people to make ICCs with the QTR Create ICC program (even with a
flatbed http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Making_B-W_ICCs.htm ) or just make
monotone curves in Photoshop. (See
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Monotone_Curves.htm ) The one for CSR may not
need much changing. I may not get back to the C88.

what I may try and do is use PrintFix Pro on it to generate an ICC

I'm not sure Print Fix Pro can linearize a monotone inkset, although that
could be a useful feature. Create ICC is a much cheaper way to do it if you
don't already have PFP.

I got an email from Colorvision (I already have PFP anyway) and they
gave instructions that they claim work well. The PFP is much easier
than buying targets, etc since I already have it.

I am surprised the C88 is so much changed from the C86...the C86 was
simple/perfect for MIS inks.

Here is that email for those interested...anyone try MIS and PFP?

-------------

When we're building our own profiles, you have to start with a color
target, and add the gray target as a supplement.

However:

You can also try the following: your mileage may vary: some people
have reported success with this,
using certain 3rd party inksets like some MIS:

- Print the color target through the MIS inks; measure it (yes,
it'll all be "gray"); and then
try building a profile from that, as if it had been a color
target. PFP will think about
this a long time, but you may end up with something quite good.

- If so, try adding the Extended Grays to the mix, printed and
measured the same way.

- Don't worry if PFP looks like it's frozen; it's working; it may
take a few minutes
to work it's way through things if you feed it all grays this way,
instead of colors.

well I tried this...results were not that good on luster...the PFP
solution on the R1800 was much better. I am really surprised at
this. Is it as good as MIS on C86? Note quite, but close. Is it as
good as C88...no, the PFP is better for the luster using the color
inks. I must admit I enjoyed using the C86 and MIS inks, but the
hassle with the C88 probably will leave me to dump it all-together
now. The PFP (PrintFix Pro) is quite a nice product.

For Paul Roark, I believe the response below was regarding the Epson
C88. Do you have recommended Epson 2200 slider controls fo9r the UT7
inkset and Crane Silver Rag? Nancy

UT7-Silver Rag (was C88+ Question....Quick)

2007-02-20 by Paul Roark

Nancy,

I think the Premium Semi Gloss settings and curves are the closest, but I do
not have a UT7 setup to test.

See http://paulroark.com/BW-Info/UT-2200-Readme.htm for the UT7
information.

Re: UT7-Silver Rag -- now Epson Premium Semi Gloss vs EP Pro SG

Speaking of the Epson Premium Semi Gloss, how close is that paper to
the Epson Professional Semi Gloss, anyone? I love the Epson
Professional, but it doesn't come in many size choices.
