Resolution question

Resolution question

2007-03-18 by Tim Timmermans

I just put away the CRT and got a Samsung 22" LCD. Obviously the shape
is different. Long rectangle rather than close to square. The images
look much better and I can see things better (including modification I
had done to some images..i.e. burning dodging etc.)

Problem is it is stretching my images as well. Square images are now
rectangles and the rectangles are grossly exagerated.

Is this a resolution issue? Is there a standard resolution that will
give me a normal looking shape to my photographs?

Check your new monitor's user manual specifications page; it will list the native resolution at which the monitor will operate best and at which there will be no distortion. Then check to see if that resolution is offered in your existing choices of resolution (right click desktop/properties/settings) and choose the one that matches. If there is no match, download the latest video card driver for your system and hope that resolution is included, if not, you'll have to use the resolution that's closest and makes your images look the most normal.

I think one does all that monitor setup first, then you adjust the aspect
ratio, then you dial in the grayscale, then the colors.
