Kirkland Glossy - USA

Kirkland Glossy - USA

2007-04-12 by Andre Moreau

Hello,

My local Costco now sells the Made In USA version of Kirkland Glossy.
Has anyone established who the mfg might be and if this paper might
still be an interesting alternative to the previous Swiss made Kirkland?

TIA,
Andre

I've queried Costco about the new paper's manufacturer but they will not
reveal that info. IMHO it's better than the Ilford that was previously
sold.

Regards,

Tom

The "Swiss" paper seems to be/have been made in a formerly-Ilford
factory, now owned by a huge Japanese paper manufacturer which heavily
investing in SE-Asian plants. Think bamboo, grass? Mysterious sources
say inkjet paper advances will soon not involve coatings and will be
easily produced by licensed non-photo paper factories, offering
improved image characteristics. Could be BS :-)

I've bought a box of this paper and am quite pleased with it. It is
much better than it has any right to be given how cheap it is. I would
assume that it doesn't have much in the way of archival properties
(but I could be wrong there). The images I've made on it with my 3800
look fantastic to me.

Thanks Tom and Derek.

I'm going to try this paper on an R220 in BO mode with MIS Photo K.

I've already try it with it Ilford Smooth Gloss and was impressed with
the results. Tonality wise, the print was maybe just a touch warmer
than selenium toning.
