Canon Pro 9000 or HP B9180 for B&W?

Canon Pro 9000 or HP B9180 for B&W?

2007-05-18 by jljonathan

I am trying to decide on one of these 2 printers for B&W up to 13x19. The Canon seems to
print very slow in greyscale (which seems to be the best, without casts). Anyone have
experience with comparing them as to the speed in B&W? And, comparing the usage of ink.
The Canon has 14ml vs HP 26ml But the ink prices are about equal per ml. Which would give
better ink use, if either does? Lastly, can the cast be adjusted out of the Canon so that I could
print regular, and take advantage of the true speed?

Before making a decision you should read the test reports of the HP9180 in the April and May issues of Black & White Photography (the British journal). The tester is Mike Johnston. In the April issue he commented on the color output of the printer and in the May issue he will cover the B&W ability of the printer. In the April issue he refers to the black & white features under a heading "The best is yet to come" and says and I quote,

"I'll be reporting on the B9180's abilites as a black and white printer exclusively. So as not to keep you in undue suspense, I'll just say the next month's article is one you mustn't miss.

I am awaiting the May issue at my local B&N bookstore.
