Shipping used printers?

Shipping used printers?

2007-07-20 by Dennis Dowling

Does anyone have experience shipping used inkjet printers? I have an Epson 900n and a 740 that I want to ship - probably by UPS. I've had a problem before where ink was spilled inside the printer during shipment. Do all Epson inkjets have some kind of waste ink resevoir - how would you empty that before shippng?

Also, the Epson manual says to leave cartridges in the printer during transport. But, it also warns you to keep the printer level. I can't expect a shipping company to keep the box level throughout the trip. Is it better to remove ink when shipping?

thanks, - Den.

I have shipped several used Epson's, and I have always removed the ink
carts and put them in ZipLoc plastic bags. I put a wad of paper
towels into the cavity where the carts where.

I have never had an 'accident' with any shipped printers. I never had
a problem with the ink reservoir, but I put the wad of towels in the
cavity anyway. On the outside, I always place stickers that say "This
End Up" all around the box. I used to work for UPS, so I know how
tough they can be moving boxes. Almost all of us, however, respected
the "This End Up" labels.
