3 K black only and glossy color on Epson R1800?

I am interested in the 3K BO/R1800 approach that Paul Roark has been experimenting with recently as a possible upgrade from the MIS UT2/Epson 1280 approach I use currently. I also would like to be able to print color on both matte paper and on silver rag or an equivalent paper. Matte color printing appears straightforward with the 3K BO setup, but would printing (color) on silver rag/glossy/luster papers require swapping both PK and glop back in, or only PK? I recall a discussion some time back about the use of a new and improved base for Ultrachrome (and equivalent MIS inks) that eliminated (?) the need for glop with glossy papers. If so, it seems that there would be no need to swap out the MK from that position to print glossy color? There must be a number of forum members who've been inspired by Paul's enthusiasm for 3K/BO to give it a try. What are your experiences? If things are going smoothly and you're turning out beautiful prints with few difficulties, that would be good to know.
