Tuning QTR's droplette size?

Tuning QTR's droplette size?

2007-08-20 by Eric Miner

Hello,

I posted this in the QTR group but have not gotten any input. I'm
hoping for some here.
Thanks,
Eric

Hello,

I'm not new to using QTR, but I am new to 'tuning'
profiles.

I have recently received MIS' new 3MK inkset for my R800. I noticed
right away that the prints I god from the R800 and this inkset showed
a much larger droplet size than I get from Iiezo inks or MIS inks on
my R220(which is rated with a larger droplette size).

I have tried all the various dither options, but this did not improve
the droplet size (grainieness). Are there any values inside of a
profile that can be tweeked to affect the droplet size (grainieness)?
At this point I find this new inkset very dissapointing.

Thanks,

Eric

Eric. I think you would have to ask Roy Harrington about this. It is
my understanding from previous threads concerning questions similar to
yours, that the droplet size is related to the tonal distribution.
That means --the darker the tone ,the bigger the drop used. Within the
RIP, whether QTR or the regular Epson drivers, the size changes
somewhere in the crossover points between darker and lighter inks. The
RIPS are a black box in that respect. Personally I too would like to
have the option to fix the droplet size at it's smallest just for the
sake of experimentation but it will take interest from a lot more
people before that might occur. There is good reason for things being
the way they are now so there is little to drive such a change. It is
not that it isn't possible to do.

Having said this--have you tried limiting your inks severely in QTR?
If not, try reducing the limit for all and reprinting. Do this and
each time look at the drop size until you see where the changes come.
It might be possible to find that and then play with the dithers to
find the best look.

Also check with Paul Roark as he is the expert with the ink set and
may be able to help you.

Regards
Duane
