A replacement for Kayenta?

A replacement for Kayenta?

2007-09-05 by Eric Miner

Now that Kayenta has been discontinued I'm looking for a replacement. I
like this paper and want to find something that's as close as possible
in the specs and the price. Does anyone have a suggestion or two for me?

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Lasal seems to be the replacement..another Utah/Southwestern name,
like all of Moab's. http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/mantilasal/

I have not yet seen Lasal because I still have plenty of Kayenta.

Moab was seriously into both their region and brand name
management..and "Kayenta" is specifically a Navajo name...maybe Moab
refrained from selling it out of respect. Courtesy is a consideration
in the SW. Who knows? Wild speculation. Legion Paper either bought or
merged with Moab Paper, depending upon who you talk to.

Like Kayenta, Lasal is bright white alpha-cellulose, matte, and double
sided. It's apparently available in some new weights.

In addition to that potentially BIG double sided price advantage, it
is even less expensive than Kayenta was. Amazing. Maybe that's
temporary :-)

Kayenta had the highest detail resolution of any of the (not many)
papers I've tested (it beat Entrada, EEM, and three true
glossies:Kirkland, Kokopelli, and Epson ) and nothing's been brighter
in the dozen or so papers I've compared in print exchanges. In
addition it has not yellowed in the year or two I've used it, unlike EEM.

Lasal is marketed by Calumet and www.inkjetart.com among others.

www.inkjetart.com should be more able than Calumet to be definitive
about "same as Kayenta" because it operates a lab, repackages various
papers under their own brand (including another bright matte
alpha-cellulose with faintly more texture ), and have been inkjetters
for quite a while.

This paper is a nicer weight (220gsm) and the reverse side has a slight texture.

It gives good results as long as there are not large areas of solid black, which lack the evenness of Kayenta or PremierArt Matte BW.

It's excellent for greeting cards

Unfortunately it did yellow for me thought not as badly as EEM.

I found the PremierArt slightly better - better blacks, specifically - though Kayenta was pretty good too.
