the day Epson sends me a 11880 to just dink around with will be the
day I announce Epson's papers are the gold standard that nothing else
can touch.
Too bad he didn't describe the surface...

He *did* write:

"The surface is smooth, but with an ultra-fine stipple that adds
a sheen and which obviously helps produce a high degree
   of reflectivity."

... which admittedly isn't much, but sounds a bit like the Harman
Gloss FB Al surface.

However, it really won't mean a thing until I run a few sheets through
my own printer.

Note that HP and Canon send him test kit too. So he's got decent reason
to be somewhat objective.

Jim Doyle told me that it is a heavier weight version of the Innova Ultra Smooth Gloss (285 gsm).

Hah. Based on the description of a the "ultra-fine stipple" and
"sheen", that's the paper that came to mind immediately :-)

How else could I adequately asses?

I have to say, even though none of these papers are knocking my socks
off yet, the level of competition in this area is encouraging. Surely
some good things will happen and maybe even some price competition.

Price competition? Wow.

That's only one of the many things I admire about you, Tyler--you're a dreamer!
