 From the small section you posted, it does not look like banding to  
me, although you have the digital image and thus can verify that the  
"tree trunks" are not in the digital image.

As a test, you might want to print a pure middle grey image  
(manufactured in Photoshop). If that is smooth, then try constructing  
an image of pure black plus pure mid grey bands, approximately the  
width of the trees section of your problem print.
