One stubborn clog. Please help

One stubborn clog. Please help

2007-11-04 by Igor Wesdorp

Hello. I hope you can help me with this one stubborn clog in K (black)
that won't go, in my Epson 1160 with MIS UT-FS inket.

I did a number of cleaning cycles (also with a flushing cart), tried
Windex on the parking pad, waited, cleaned the bottom of the printhead
with Windex, and finally injected Windex in the nipples in the
cartridge holder (several times, and I let it sit overnight).
To no avail: I still have one gap in the K section of the nozzle check.

What more can a man do?

Can it be anything else than a clog? Any use 'resetting' the 1160?

Please help, or I'll have to buy a new printer.

Thanks,

I g o r

Igor,

I've used the 1160 successfully for years, ultimately installing the MIS CFS
system. I've long since abandoned it in favor of a new R2400.

I had a similar clogging problem that would not yield to any solution,
including all that you tried. So, I finally contacted Epson for advice.
They said to install new Epson carts and go through the head cleaning
process. Believing this to be rather self serving, I nonetheless installed
the K Epson cart. By doing so, however, I was able to rescue the 1160. It
is still working very nicely (with Epson carts) after all these years.

Sorry, but it looks like you¹ll have to bite the bullet if you want to save
it.

Harry

Thanks Harry,

That's the one thing I haven't tried yet.
I'll try it, and if it doesn't work I may switch to the R2400 too.

Igor,

Let me know how you fare. And don’t give up; that 1160 is still a gem.

I’ll second this answer. Many years back a friend gave me his 1160. He had
tried several different third party inks in it. It was clogged in a big way
when I got it. I didn’t try too many extraordinary measures but rather just
tried Epson carts. While more expensive than the alternatives, they did
clean the clogs. I did later switch to other inks.

Harry, the strange thing happened, that it cured itself. All my
attempts seemed in vain, but before I could try your trick (which I
will keep in mind for future occasions) I saw some ink coming through,
giving a faint mark on the nozzle check, and it got better all the
time until all was well and the nozzle chack was perfect!!!

Who will ever truly understand a machine?

Thanks again for your help.
