Ideal humidity range for 4800 and Matte papers

Ideal humidity range for 4800 and Matte papers

2007-11-17 by rternbach

Hi,

With winter approaching and indoor humidity levels dropping I'm
anticipating an increased chance of clogging. I'm wodering what the
ideal range would be for controlling humidity around a 4800. Of
course, this will eventualy be tested by trial and error but should I
start with 50 to 60%? In the summer the humidity was considerably
higher but I made no attempts to dehumidify as I was not running into
problems so long as, at a minimum, I printed nozzle checks daily.

Thanks,

Rudy

Rudy:

My 4800 set up with matte black ink never clogs even when it of kept
off for 30 to 45 days. The humidity in the printers environment is
kept at 40 to 50% year round. The down side is that when printing on
RC papers, using another 4800 with photo black, you run onto the out
gassing problem with much longer drying times.

I don't know about the 4800, Rudy, but I think around 50 percent
might be good for the location in which your paper is stored. I store
mine in a closet which houses the water heater and think that might
help a bit when the humidity goes up. And I also think I remember
list subscribers from high elevations in the Southwestern U.S. saying
some time ago that their inkjets did OK until the humidity got down
to around 20 percent. But the inks and the printers and the papers
have all changed since then. Still, I think I'd consider putting off
running a humidifier and keeping some records until I noticed an
apparently related problem.
