You can use the Quadtone rip to select exactly which ink(s) is used.
It takes some tinkering to get the right density, and you can't print
borderless (last I checked).

I have not used the Linux-Gimp+Gutenberg-print approach directly. QTR uses
some of the Gimp print engine, I believe. What you need is any "rip"
("raster image processor" or third party print utility) that will give you
control of each channel independently. The Epson driver controls are not
enough. An advantage to QTR is that I and others have posted profiles so
that you would not have to make your own.

I assume the R1900 will be similar to the R1800. However, I have not been
able to determine whether the same cartridges will be used. At least in the
U.S. obtaining new, empty, re-fillable cartridges is becoming a problem due
to our government helping Epson perfect its monopoly over inks for its
printers. Be sure you'll be able to get empty cartridges for the printer
before buying one.

Hope this helps.
