Eboni-6 and paper choice....Paul?

Eboni-6 and paper choice....Paul?

2007-12-26 by Sarah Renkes

"While I prefer a non-OBA paper with the R1800 3-MK approach, the printing
characteristics of the Eboni-6 inkset are such that I prefer a somewhat brightened paper
for "neutral" printing here."

Paul... I know you are a big fan of Premier Art's non OBA paper, and I like it quite a lot as
well. But I am still stuck on HPR, as my high contrast images tend to really pop on it.

I'm really excited to try your Eboni-6 inkset with my 2200, as it would mean I don't have to
purchase an R1800 (which sounded as close to b/w printing panacea for me as I've seen
yet). In reference to the above quote from your PDF, would you say that HPR might turn
out to be a better choice with this approach/printer?

Thank you!
Sarah

...in the R1800 3MK approach, I'm assuming much more of the paper shows through?

HPR combines a very good dmax with a brightened coating. Both of these tend
to give an image more "pop."

The PA Smooth BW has more brighteners, but not over the top. (Different
batches are in the Lab B = -1 to -2.) The dmax of the PA papers varies,
with the 205 usually mid to low 1.60s and the thicker 325 at the high end of
the 1.60s -- which is very good. The BW versions are showing the same
range. I have not had enough experience with different batches to know what
printer will result in what average dmax for these papers.

We'll have to see what the 2200 cartridge situation turns into. A week ago
MIS was out of 2200 carts. They may be available again, however.

HPR is warmer than I like for most of my landscape shots, but it's beautiful
for where I like a warmer image. I have so much Permajet Alpha, however,
that I use that paper. They're about the same. Compare the tone graphs of
Alpha and HPR on pages 5 & 6 of http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eboni-6.pdf

Thanks, Paul. I'm going to look into the Permajet paper. And cross my fingers about the
carts. ~sigh~ Just when it all gets exciting......
