coated side of Portfolio Rag?

coated side of Portfolio Rag?

2008-02-23 by Tyler Boley

anyone know how to identify it? The tongue trick isn't working, and
getting a little gross anyway...
Both side seem the same. No instructions.
Doing a few tests with some samples, odd paper...

Thanks,
Tyler

Yea it's bizarre, I can't tell either. The only way I can tell is the
curl of the roll :-) .

Doesn't it say VIEW FROM THIS SIDE like slide mounts? Now, if you
would use rolls, YOU would know :)

Hi Tyler,
I discovered that with sheets of Photo Rag, carefully feeling the cut
edges shows that the raised edge side is the coated one. I'm imagining
that the paper started as a roll, and when cut has that slight edge
from the inside surface. Perhaps the same would be true with
Portfolio Rag??

Hi Tyler:

I use the fingernail scratch test. Coated side has more resistance
(sort of like sandpaper). Putting a very small mark with a pencil in
a corner of the non-print side as they come out of the box can also
be helpful.

Hope that helps,

Andrew
