any suggestions for a good printer for black and whites?

I have a canon printer that i love for my color prints but the black and whites are difficult to produce well. I was thinking i would buy a separate printer for black and whites so i am asking for suggestions. The problem i am having with the canon is if i go black only you can only do that with plain paper.
