Printer for black and white photos

Printer for black and white photos

I've just ordered an Epson R200 from Ebay for $175 which has been
discontinued but is a low price model that will take the MIS black
cartridge set. According to research online this is the cheapest way
to get into semi-professional black and white printing. There are
other companies that offer similar ink sets, but you need to purchase
their software driver instead of using the Epson driver. Of course,
using other ink voids the warranty. Also, the ink sets can only be
used with certain Epson models. So check out the MIS website to get
more information.

After the printer and ink set arrives, I'll know if this is a good
system for printing black and white. Currently I'm using a Canon
Pixma 4200 which is outstanding for color prints in most cases.
However, depending upon the light conditions of the digital image,
there is too much red in the blacks. It does not work well for most
black and white images. The blacks come out with a red or purple
tinge. Hope this was helpful and happy printing.

I went crazy this week trying to get red out myself. I ran all the
red out to see if that would work, but now the prints are just blue.
As soon as I try out the new system, I'll post some feedback.

I use an R220 with MIS UTR2 inks and it's a great combination. I use a
mix of the warm and neutral (in fact, cool) set for a look that's a bit
warmer than neutral. I like it a lot.

My father has a cheap desktop Canon and it's quite good for glossy but
truly poor for B&W with major color casts under different light
sources. Your printer will have no such problems.

For glossy, give Harmon FB Gloss a try. Print with paper type ultra
premium glossy, photo RPM and check super microweave for the best
blacks. I also use Epson Premium Semi-gloss which is a decent paper
with somewhat weaker, but still good, blacks

Have fun!
Roger

When you say you use a combination, does that mean that you can mix
the cartridges from more than one MIS ink set?

Thanks,
