Lines in print

2008-04-17 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
I output a print for a client yesterday and found there were two very sharp and fine, faint lines in the solid black areas of the matte paper output from my Epson 2100 (spaced about 6.5 cm apart).

I've had roller marks before but this was different - the rollers make softer, wider marks in black areas and these were cleaned by spraying paper with glass cleaner, running it through the printer and gripping it so that the rollers scrape against the paper as it's help still for a second.

I tried that technique again in a vain hope that it might do something.

It didn't remove the two track marks but added the roller marks that this technique had previously removed.

So I'm stumped.

If anyone can suggest anything I'd be keen to hear any suggestions.

I've had years of reliable service from this machine so these things are bound to happen eventually.

thanks,
Richard

It could be the pizza wheels, although I've never heard of them
causing track marks on matte papers before. They can be easily
disabled by loosening the black clip that fix them in place inside the
printer all the way down on the left hand side. It's kind of hard to
explain without showing you a photo. The process is easily reversible.

You will lose the ability to make borderless prints, or prints that
comes close to the bottom edge of the paper.

Hi Daniel,
good to hear from you after all this time ... don't pizza wheels make a more dotty line?

Richard

Is it a scanned image or digital capture? If the former is it
possible that they are previously unnoticed fine scratches on the
negative? If not a scanned image, is it possible they are fine
scratches on the paper? Both of these should be fairly easy to test
for before trying all sorts of things with the printer.
