Paper option similar to Hanneemuhle photorag 308

Paper option similar to Hanneemuhle photorag 308

2008-04-25 by fuji20185

Hi,
I was wondering whether anyone had suggestions on types of papers
similar to photorag 308. Am using K7 inks and also need options for
double-sided printing for books. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
Many thanks
Siobhan

"similar to" is a pretty broad brush, hard to know exactly what you're
looking for. There are quite a few good matte papers available but
none are exactly alike (excepting rebranded ones of course). They all
have strengths and weaknesses, and these attributes can vary depending
on the ink used. Article #5 at the link below, "The Great Paper
Chase", has some comparison charts and comments on over 20 matte
papers. The section for Eboni-based inks is probably closer to K7
than the K3 section.

Clayton

Why do you need something "similar to"? (why not photorag?)

Also, they make a double sided photorag (but not the 308 if I recall
correctly - 279 or something)

I like Entrada Natural 300gsm - no optical brighteners at all. Marginally more texture than Photorag, double-sided, less bright white.

It's great for BW - if you plan to use if for colour however, I would go for Epson Velvet (but it's single-sided) or Entrada Bright as the cream colour tends to kill the colour.

As an unbrightened paper it has excellent stability - in a three month window test I did it actually bleached slightly, unlike brightened papers that go more cream.

If you want it for book printing however, surely papers in the 300gsm weight would be too heavy? Entrada also comes in 190gsm double-sided which might be more suitable.
