UT2 vs EB6

UT2 vs EB6

2008-05-06 by mbrouphy

Which inkset is the best way to go for printing b/w warm tone prints on
an Epson 1280? And, given the ut2 inkset that I'm currently using
which inks are common with EB6 if the EB6 inkset is better?

Thanks, Mike

My 2200 is printing Carbon-6 now as I type this. My 7500 uses Eboni-
6, and both have worked well in the 220. This generic 100% carbon
approach is where I'm going now.

So, from my perspective, that is what I'd use. That's all I can
really comment on.

I believe the 1280 can do this with either one of these inksets
(Eboni-6 being the commercial version of Carbon-6). I have not tried
it, however. On the other hand, the same basic ink densities are
used in most of the Epson inskets I've made. The hextone, 2k and 3k
printers share a lot in common. The Eboni-6 uses the standard
density ratios; Carbon-6 is a slight modification to make mixing
easier for some.

The Eboni MK ink is the only common ink with UT2.

If you do switch to Eboni-6, be sure to thoroughly flush the color
positions and parking pad. (I have no evidence of Carbon-6
incompatibilities, but have also not tested for it. Carbon-6 is more
experimental and is currently in long term testing by me and others.
It is not an MIS product except for the Eboni.)

I hope and believe that these monotone inksets are easy enough to
profile that it'll open up their use to many people on many
printers. But I really don't know how many people are interested in
getting into B&W in this way. It works for me.
