R1800 and Extended Warranty

R1800 and Extended Warranty

2008-06-15 by rockfordinvestigations

The one year warranty is about to expire on my refurbished R1800. I'm fully invested in Paul's
3MK system, and am using color for matte prints, too. Now that it's discontinued, I'm weary
of moving to another model. I was going to sell mine, and get a new refurbished one, but
maybe $60 for another 2 years of warranty would be worth it.

I don't know if my use of some 3rd party inks will be an issue, or if they will someday try to
give me another model (R1900?) if mine breaks.

Thoughts?

If you have a good printer and like it, why change? Frankly, I never
extend warranties on things like this. I'd think a problem would show
up soon if the machine was not put together well.

I have returned at least one printer to Epson that had used third party
inks most of the time, and they simply asked if OEM ink was in the
printer (not if non-OEM ink was EVER in the printer). Since the OEM
ink was (then) in the printer, I told them that. They asked what the
numbers were on the ink carts. I told them the Epson numbers, and they
then authorized the return. I think a legitimate position they could
take is that the only problems they are responsible for is those that
happen when OEM ink is in the printer; they do not warrant that their
machines will work with all inks.
