R1800 paper load problem

R1800 paper load problem

2008-10-17 by Sarah Renkes

Hi all,

I finally got an r1800 and am ready to go with the 3Mk set-up (very excited!). However, I am
stymied by the fact that the paper I'm loading (HPR) keeps passing right through the printer.

I googled and came up with something about a thick paper check box in the photoshop
printer dialog....but I can't seem to find that (I'm on a mac with PSCS....the first one.).

I suspect I am missing something that's staring me right in the face....anyone?

Thanks,
Sarah

I find the rear, manual feed option on the 1800 to be very useful for
thick paper.

Thanks Paul. I should have mentioned that I was hoping to avoid having to use the rear
feed. I have so little space on my desk that turning the printer around to print would be a
real pain.

My 2200 always accepted any media loaded from the front, albeit sometimes with a little
nudge.

I think the thick paper check off box is in the menu selection "Extension Settings". Also, sometimes the feed rollers get paper dust on them and they do not feed evenly. The paper passes right through then.

I fix these dirty feed rollers by taking a sheet of heavy paper, spraying the leading edge with Photo Mount Adhesive, lightly to about a third of the way down the paper. Let dry well; hours!

Then feed that sheet, adheasive first, several times on both sides. The dried adheasive picks up the paper dust. In Europe I am told that Epson sells a paper like this for roller cleaning. It is not available here in the USA.

Ben

Hi Sarah,

I have the same paper/printer combination as you (3MK too, love it!) and I've had to fight like heck to get the 1800 to accept HPR through the top feeder (maybe that's not the same problem you're having?). However, feeding through the rear slot is completely trouble-free. It's worth the pain!

Ben, thanks. In what menu do I find extension settings?

Re: R1800 paper load problem

2008-10-18 by ben schneider

The paper thickness check off is in the "Print" menu, third box down, and next to the last choice.

On my R1800, I also added a piece of plastic angle, 1/2x1/2x3 1/2 long to the feed tray, between the guide tap, and the base, on the right side. This keeps the paper from twisting during loading. I use double sided paper a lot and it has feed problems as well. This guide helps.

Ben
