Same Question from Old Newbie in Orlando....

Could not tell if the new Fuji Pro (
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0201/02013003fujifilms2pro.asp ) -- Which
takes Nikon AF lenses, will take the older non AF lenses from my Nikon
FE2, even if I have to use a lightmeter... ;)

The Fuji S1 PRO (current model) does take all Nikon lenses as long as they were converted to AI mount. You can tell if its AI if there are 2 sets of Aperture numbers on the lenses ring -- one set of numbers normal size, one set very small numbers at the very back end of the lenses. If it IS AI then you still need to use an external light meter. The new auto focus lenses work ok (mostly) except for the new VR (vibration reduction) lenses. The new S2 Pro should be the same I believe

Vlly,

The Nikkormat has the original SLR Nikon mount, right? A tab with a slot in
it to engage the lens f-stop ring with a pin in the prism light meter? If
so, the lens will not fit any of the newer Nikon bodies without alteration.
I looked at having all my F lens modified years ago and at that time there
were still a few people doing the conversions. There might be a repair shop
that can do the work for you.

Paul,

I looked up this unit from the web site you provided. It appears to be an awesome camera.
Price tag should be around $3,000 give or take. When one reviews the features on this updated
model, you really do get what you pay for...........finally.

Thanks for the info.

AF-S lenses don't autofocus on the S1 but will on the S2.

Don,

Thanks, as all my Nikon lenses do have both sets of aperture numbers, I
now have another camera to audition for my leap into digital. (This is good!)

Paul
If you wait til July or so of this year the new Fuji S2 is due out. I'm sure there will be a large number of "experienced"
S1 bodies for sale. I have had a S1 body since it came out. It's been an excellent camera, providing very very acceptable results

Hi:

I have had many Nikon lenses converted to AI by John White. Great work
at reasonable prices. His E-mail is jwhite@...

I have also had several lenses modified with the matrix chip. Again
great service from Rolland Elliott. His phone is 704-504-3528

Good luck

Don,

Excellent suggestion for this value oriented, (read cheap)
photographer, transitioning to digital... So this summer, I'll be
looking for a well-loved 'experienced' S1 body. ;)

Phil,

Thank you for the referral! I have added them to my data base.

I did have most of my lens conversions done by Nikon when I went to the
AI system, but I heard that Nikon no longer does the AI conversions...
so it's nice to have a third party referral for when I'll need to get
this work done in the future.
