epson 3800 printer

2008-12-30 by Antonio Fernandez

thanks for the feedback (detlef_g, Antonis and Platinum Jim), good
information to consider. i have seen numerous photos in the black and
white photo mag using epson 3800---beautiful.

i live on a farm and can not use traditional processing techniques
because i have a septic tank. so i need an alternative; scanning my
negs and digital printing unless i do alternative processing printing
using the sun (abundant in arizona).

again, thanks for the feedback.

I too have recently purchased an Epson 3800 and am really glad I did.
I never dreamed I could make prints this good at home, let alone
without a darkroom.

I have done my B&W stuff with Eric Chan's ABW profies (thanks, Eric!)
and have tried a couple prints with the Quadtone RIP package. They
look somewhat different, but I am not ready to say either one looks
BETTER to me at this point.

Actually, the biggest improvement for me was getting a copy of Noise
Ninja and using it to reduce the grain in my scanned 4x5s. They look
SOOOO much better after applying Noise Ninja!

Anyway, I'm really pleased with my 3800.

Michael

PS: I got a terrific deal on my 3800 from Sarah Newman at Shades of
Paper in New Jersey. She beat the otherwise best price I had seen on
the net by about fifty bucks, including free shipping (which turned
out to be overnight since they drop shipped from a warehouse about 50
miles from me) and a $200 rebate from Epson. (only one day left to
take advantage of that $200 Epson rebate, btw!).

Not only does the Epson 3800 make great black & white prints, bit it
also makes the best digital negatives of any current Epson printers
for alternative processes.

Hi Michael,

I have an Epson 2400, 2200 & 1280...but the 3800 is really tempting.

I enjoyed your Smugmug photos/galleries. I feel much like you....ie
I'm making mediocre images in Alaska....but enjoying it nonetheless.

Do you still have the KLR650? If so, you need to come up to Alaska
and the Yukon someday for the Dust to Dawson Summer Solstice ride.
Dawson City is the place to be for a KLR650 rider. Hope to see you
there someday.

MARK-

I am looking for a ink-jet digital alternative for line art film
negatives. Currently get negatives from Linotronic output which I
believe runs a resolution of about 2400dpi. I am looking for
something capable of out outputting single color and multiple spot
color (trapped w/ accurate registration) rather than continous-tone
film negatives.
